The collection is deliberately small. We’d rather make a handful of designs properly than produce dozens and refine none of them.
But a small collection still means a choice, and choosing from photographs is difficult. So this is a plain guide to what each bag is, who it tends to suit, and how to think about the decision.
Almost everyone chooses a bag on appearance and then discovers whether it works over the following fortnight. It’s worth doing it the other way round.
Ask yourself three questions.
How much do you actually carry? Not what you think you should carry. Empty out your current bag and look at what’s really in there.
Where does the bag need to sit? Across the body while your hands are busy, or over the shoulder for something more formal?
How often will you use it? An everyday bag has a harder life than an occasion bag, and wants a different shape.
Answer those honestly and the collection narrows itself.
£349 — the most compact piece in the collection
The half moon is a shape that flatters almost everyone. It curves softly and sits close against the body rather than swinging away from it, which is part of why it looks as composed at the end of the day as it did at the start.
It’s the smallest of our bags, and that’s a feature rather than a limitation. It holds what you genuinely need and quietly refuses the rest, which most people find they prefer once they’ve tried it.
It suits you if: you carry light, you prefer a distinctive silhouette to a conventional one, or you want a first piece of properly made leather without committing to the largest option.
£495 — a small saddle bag, in two designs
The Aryanna is a beautifully proportioned saddle bag in full grain vegetable tanned leather, lined in soft suede and finished with traditional white stitching, a signature tassel and our company stamp. The hardware is triple-chromed and anti-tarnish.
The detail that matters most in daily use is the straps. It comes with a thick detachable crossbody strap and a shorter detachable strap, so the same bag works hands-free across the body on a busy day and over the shoulder when you want something more considered. Very few bags at any price genuinely do both.
There are two Aryanna designs in the collection, differing in their finish and detailing, so it’s worth looking at both versions before deciding.
It suits you if: you want one bag that covers most of your life. This is the piece people tend to reach for without thinking.
£520 — two-tone tan with a western buckle
The Tinker is the most characterful bag we make. A two-toned tan body with dark brown binding, finished with a bold western metal buckle that gives it a shape and presence the others don’t have.
It’s a saddle bag with genuine countryside credentials rather than countryside styling, which is presumably why our bags keep turning up in Horse and Hound, The Field and Telegraph Countryside Living.
It suits you if: you want a bag with some personality to it. It works with denim, with a wax jacket, and at a country event, and it looks entirely at home in a city too.
There are two Tinker variations in the collection — worth comparing the first against the second.
£495 — relaxed shape, everyday capacity
The Gypsy has a softer, more relaxed line than the saddle bags. It carries a little more, sits comfortably, and has the easy quality of a bag you stop thinking about, which is the highest compliment you can pay one.
It suits you if: you carry more than the essentials but don’t want anything structured or formal. A good choice as a genuine everyday bag.
£590 — the fullest expression of the collection
The Signature is where everything we do comes together. It’s the largest and most considered piece, and the one where the craft is most visible: the cut of the leather, the finishing of the edges, the way the hardware sits.
It suits you if: you want the definitive piece rather than the practical one, or you’re buying a bag intended to last decades and be handed on.
Tan is the most versatile and it ages the most visibly, deepening year by year. Darker leathers hide wear better and read as more formal. Every bag can be finished in different colourways, so the same design can feel quite different depending on the hide.
If you’re torn between two, the deciding factor is usually the wardrobe rather than the bag.
A silk scarf or twilly tied to the handle changes a bag entirely, and is the simplest way to make one piece work across the seasons. They start at a much lower price than the bags, which also makes them the easiest way to begin.
Go back to the three questions at the top. In our experience, someone who carries light almost always ends up with the Evie or an Aryanna, someone who wants one bag for everything ends up with an Aryanna or the Gypsy, and someone buying a piece to keep for good ends up with the Signature.
