A twilly is a long, narrow band of silk, and it is the single most useful accessory you could own for the money. It changes a handbag, holds a ponytail, ties at the neck, and takes up no room at all.
What makes a twilly different
A full scarf is square and designed to drape. A twilly is narrow and designed to wrap and tie.
That narrow format does two things. It’s easier to tie neatly, because there’s no folding to do first. And it suits places a square scarf can’t go, chiefly a bag handle.
Ours are printed on silk and hand finished, the same as the full scarves. See the full twilly scarves collection.
On a bag
This is where most twillies spend their life, and it’s the quickest way to change how a bag looks without owning another one.
Wrapped around the handle. Wind it along the handle in a spiral, tucking the ends. It softens the handle in the hand as well as looking good.
Tied to the strap fixing. A single knot at the hardware with the ends falling loose. Less work, more movement.
A bow at the base of the handle. Neater and more formal, and it suits a structured bag.
A tan bag with a twilly tied to it reads completely differently from the same bag plain. Our guide to pairing bags and scarves goes into which prints sit well with which leathers.
In your hair
Around a ponytail. Wrap and tie, leaving the ends to fall. It holds better than it looks like it should and survives wind.
As a headband. Fold flat, take it under the hair and tie on top or at the nape.
Plaited through a braid. Weave it in as a third strand. More effort, and striking.
At the neck and elsewhere
Tied close at the neck as a narrow choker, threaded through belt loops, knotted at a coat buttonhole, or tied to a bag you already have. There isn’t much a twilly can’t be put on.
Our guide to how to style a silk scarf covers the full-size options.
Choosing a print
Our twillies come in the same designs as the full scarves, so you could match the two or deliberately contrast them. The prints are The Hunting Field, Run Rabbit, The Hunting Fox, Strawberry Fields and Blackberry Dreams.
Two things decide which earns its place:
The colours in your wardrobe. A twilly against a tan bag and a navy coat gets worn constantly if it carries those tones.
Scale. A twilly shows a narrow slice of a print, so designs with smaller repeating elements read more clearly at that width.
Looking after it
Silk at this size takes almost no effort. Hand wash cool, dry flat, iron on the reverse. The one thing worth doing is untying it from a bag handle occasionally rather than leaving it knotted in the same place for months.
Our guide to caring for silk scarves covers snags and storage.

Frequently asked questions
Most often tied to a handbag handle or strap, but they work equally well in hair, at the neck, or as a belt.
Not if it’s wrapped and tucked properly. A spiral wrap with the ends tucked under holds well.
Yes. Our prints come in both, so you could wear the scarf and tie the matching twilly to your bag.
